BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said the interim government has fulfilled the demands and aspirations of the people by deciding that the 13th national parliamentary elections be held before the month of Ramadan next year.

“Preparations for the election have already begun after a letter was sent from the chief adviser to the Election Commission to this end. The people of the country expect a free and fair election under the interim government,” he told the media after visiting the family of Masuma Begum, who is among the victims of the recent plane crash on Milestone School’s Diabari campus in Uttara.

“The BNP is ready to extend full cooperation to ensure an impartial election,” Rizvi added.

Commenting on the recent Cox’s Bazar visit by a group of National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders that sparked controversy, Rizvi said, “They are free to travel anywhere, but there is no need to be secretive about it. People do not expect any conspiracies or hidden agendas from those who played a leading role in the movement for democracy and the fall of fascism.”

He further added that the people want a system of governance where the government is held accountable in every aspect. “Without accountability, it is impossible to move the country forward,”

Earlier today, financial assistance was provided to the family of deceased plane crash victim Masuma’s family, from the “Amra BNP Poribar”, a platform dedicated to the BNP and its supporters. At the same time, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman took responsibility for the education of Masuma’s son, Abdullah.

The event was attended by journalist Atikur Rahman Ruman, convener of the Amra BNP Poribar, along with other party leaders and activists.
