BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged to plant 25 to 30 crore trees over five years if his party assumes power, aiming to combat climate change and protect the environment.
“Climate and the environment are crucial for a healthy life. There is no alternative,” he said while virtually addressing a discussion arranged by Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, in the capital.
The discussion, titled ‘Anti-Fascist Movement and My Unspoken Words’, was held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), marking the anniversary of the 2024 July-August Mass Uprising.
“These trees won’t just protect the environment, they will shield Bangladesh from floods and droughts,” Tarique added.
He emphasised that the people of Bangladesh now seek action, not just promises.
“This time, they want results. That’s why we are designing a political programme focused on real change — improving livelihoods, generating employment at home and abroad, and ensuring a safe working environment.”
Tarique also spoke of building economic self-reliance for every citizen based on their individual capabilities.
He noted that BNP teams are currently working across sectors to shape policies that reflect this vision.
